With Vincenzo Capezzuto, Musica Viva welcomes one of the most extraordinary sopranists of our time. Hard to pigeonhole, his unique voice unites the expressive world of baroque music with the elegance and warmth of his native Naples. Together with the highly virtuosic Motus Mandolin Trio he explores the songs and dances of Naples, a repertoire whose popularity spread throughout Europe during the 19th century.
Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti drew inspiration from the city at the foot of Vesuvius, as did many poets and writers of their time. Neapolitan song became the musical voice of an entire region. Its melodies are characterised by a contagious rhythmic vitality and an irresistible joy of making music.
Originally trained as a dancer, Vincenzo Capezzuto still brings that artistic physicality to every performance. Every gesture seems to arise naturally from the music itself. Together with the Motus Mandolin Trio he creates a performance of dazzling virtuosity and irresistible energy, blurring the boundaries between concert, theatre and dance in a truly captivating way.
