The Ensembles

Michele de Martino presents four musical projects: the duo Nuances, the Trio Acustico Napoletano, Ottocento Napoletano and the Orchestra a Plettro della Penisola Sorrentina.

The repertoire spans the Neapolitan tradition, classical music and new compositions. The formations change from time to time: from the chamber dialogue between plucked instruments to the voice accompanied by mandolin and guitar, up to the large ensemble of the OPPS.

DUO

Nuances

Michele de Martino · Salvatore Della Vecchia

The concert is a succession of original and other compositions, whose purpose is to highlight the expressive potential of the mandolin, too often hastily relegated to a mere folkloric instrument.

Following a domestic repertoire very much in vogue between the 19th and 20th centuries, the duo offers a careful reinterpretation of masterpieces such as Bach's Sonata and Chopin's waltzes, highly suited to the timbral nature of plucked instruments. Ample prominence is also given to the Neapolitan compositional school (Barbella, Napoli, Calace), which brought such musical lustre to our city, yet is all too often relegated to the shadows.

The Duo Nuances, of very recent formation, is made up of musicians with a rich concert career both nationally and internationally (France, Spain, U.S.A., China, Korea), always meeting with unanimous acclaim. They have collaborated with prestigious opera houses (Teatro San Carlo, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma) under the direction of famous musicians such as R. Muti, Z. Mehta and D. Oren.

TRIO

Trio Acustico Napoletano

Emanuela Loffredo · Voice
Michele de Martino · Mandolin
Maurizio Pica · Guitar

The Acustico Napoletano ensemble was founded under this name and with the aims that belong to it in 2013, and made its debut on the initiative of the Fondazione Roberto Murolo, on the occasion of the conference The forms of the song. The ensemble brings together the moving, uniquely timbred voice of Emanuela Loffredo on vocals, joined by masters Michele de Martino on mandolin and Maurizio Pica on guitar.

The aim is to disseminate and enhance the great heritage of Neapolitan Song through an acoustic and essential performance: the most celebrated pieces of the tradition, artistically reworked for the minimal instrumental ensemble. Particular attention is also devoted to the mandolin, presented in its dual guise, classical and popular.

ORCHESTRA

Orchestra a Plettro della Penisola Sorrentina

Michele de Martino · Musical Direction

The Orchestra a Plettro della Penisola Sorrentina was founded in 2020 on the initiative of Michele de Martino and brings together about forty musicians, including internationally renowned professionals, teachers and young talents from the area.

It pursues two fundamental objectives: the rediscovery of the historical and original repertoire for mandolin and plucked instruments, and the promotion of contemporary music, encouraging the creation of new compositions dedicated to this ensemble.

The programmes combine historical classics (Calace, Mezzacapo), opera transcriptions (Verdi, Mascagni) and 20th-century and contemporary works (Kuwahara, Mandonico, Della Vecchia). Alongside concerts, there is a strong activity of social and educational value, in support of musical literacy and new generations of instrumentalists.
