OPPS

The Orchestra

The Orchestra a Plettro della Penisola Sorrentina (OPPS) was founded in 2020 on the initiative of Michele de Martino. The ensemble brings together about forty musicians, including professionals, teachers and young talents from the area.

The orchestra's work focuses on the historical repertoire and original literature for mandolin and plucked instruments, with an open eye towards contemporary music and the creation of new compositions.

Alongside its concert activity, there are educational and socially useful projects, aimed at spreading mandolin culture and supporting the growth of new generations of instrumentalists.

The Music Director

The musical direction of the orchestra is entrusted to its founder, Michele de Martino, a mandolinist of clear renown and Italian excellence.

At the helm of the ensemble, de Martino brings the experience gained as a concert performer and teacher, guiding the group through programmes ranging from historical classics to 20th-century and contemporary works.

Future goals and artistic research

The Orchestra a Plettro della Penisola Sorrentina is constantly engaged in creating new cultural synergies and expanding the expressive boundaries of plucked instruments.

The ensemble works steadily on the production of new works in collaboration with contemporary composers, on recording new discographic projects and on spreading mandolin culture in Italy and abroad, establishing itself as a genuine permanent artistic laboratory and a shared cultural "vision".
